Prior to Interview

Review your résumé: Your résumé is the tool that landed you an interview and is the platform most interviewers base their questions on, so be sure to get re-acquainted. Take note of the dates and skills you've listed and prepare answers for any gaps in your work history.

Review job description: Align your experience with each quality and skill listed in the description. Observe the language used and mirror the tone in your answers. If any aspects of the role appear unclear, speak to your consultant to clarify.

The company: Researching the company is cruical to adding context to your interview conversations, and communicates a solid interest in the role. Be clear on what the company does do, whether they were the subject of any recent press, and how they compare to competitors. Researching your interviewers too can help settle nerves by establishing common ground within your work experience.

Interview format: Understanding the format and structure of the interview beforehand will allow you to prepare relevant answers that clearly articulate the application of your skills in the workplace. The most common interview technique is competency based interviewing where the interviewer will focus on specific examples of how you've demonstrated key skills. Other interview formats including psychometric, presentation, case study and panel interviews.

 Post Interview

If the interview is arranged through a consultant call them after the interview to discuss your feedback. Whether successful or not ensure you receive detailed feedback as it will help you improve your interview technique.

If you would like further advice on how to prepare for an upcoming job interview, speak to our specialist recruitment consultants.
